Frequently asked questions
How does street tracking work?
Stomp City uses your device's GPS to detect when you walk along a street. Walked streets turn green on the map in real time. The app matches your GPS trail against OpenStreetMap road data to determine which streets you've covered.
Do I need to keep the app open?
The app tracks your location while it is open and in use. For the most accurate tracking, keep Stomp City open while walking. Background tracking is available in your device settings.
Why isn't a street I walked showing as complete?
Street detection depends on GPS accuracy. If you walked close to a street but not directly along it, it may not register. Try walking the street again, keeping to the pavement. Buildings and tunnels can sometimes affect GPS signal.
Is my location data shared?
No. All location data is processed and stored entirely on your device. Nothing is ever sent to any server. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What happens if I delete the app?
All your walking data, challenge progress, and preferences are stored locally on your device. If you delete the app, this data is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
Which areas does Stomp City cover?
Stomp City currently covers all 33 London boroughs, including the City of London. We focus exclusively on London for now.
How are challenges scored?
Each challenge tracks a themed set of streets or landmarks. Your progress shows as a percentage of the total. Walk the streets in any order you like.
Is the app free?
Yes, Stomp City is free to download and use.
